John Odom Biography


John serves as a SERC Principal Consultant, and oversees and engages with SERC staff to plan, develop and implement key initiatives across the organization and across SERC’s 16 state footprint. In addition, John works with leadership across NERC and the Regions on significant continent-wide initiatives for continuous improvements that help the Regions fulfill their mission to reduce risks and ensure a reliable, resilient and electric grid across North America.  

Previously, John served as the Vice President of Compliance, Enforcement and Reliability Performance for Florida Reliability Coordinating Council (FRCC). He was responsible for monitoring and enforcement of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved reliability standards, risk assessment and mitigation, certification, registration, situation awareness, events analysis and performance analysis for the FRCC.

Before joining FRCC, John spent 26 years at Progress Energy Corporation (now Duke Energy Florida), primarily in the area of Transmission Planning where he was actively involved in FERC’s Open Access transmission proceedings and in various NERC activities.

John has been a member of IEEE for more than 30 years. He received a BSE from the University of Central Florida, and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Florida.
