One of SERC’s four cornerstones is that of Assistance. Assistance plays an important role in keeping registered entities informed, educated, and enabled to maintain and enhance the reliability of the Bulk Electric System. Assistance allows SERC to interact on important issues and utilize the wealth of subject matter expertise available for the direct benefit of the entities. This year, SERC is developing a value-based, targeted assistance program to directly aid registered entities where they need it the most. This new program will also be a further enhancement the current opportunities listed below.

SERC outreach events occur throughout the year. Annual events include the Spring, Fall, CIP, and Small Entity Compliance Seminars. Open Forum Webinars are conducted quarterly in Q1, Q2, and Q3; and focused events to feature new or revised ERO initiatives are conducted on an as-needed basis. Access a complete list of upcoming events by clicking the VIEW ALL link under the calendar on the homepage.

Also on the Upcoming Events page are links to past events. Links to presentations and the WebEx recording are at the bottom of each event’s page.

The purpose of the Registered Entity Forum (REF) is to promote compliance excellence and provide a way for registered entities to exchange information, share lessons learned, and generate concerns and questions to be provided to SERC staff anonymously through an REF Steering Committee member. You are welcome to contact committee members directly with O&P or CIP questions.

Complete information may be found in the REF Charter and REF Information documents.

This popular conference series assists system operators in maintaining their NERC Certification by awarding NERC-approved continuing education hours for the successful completion of the course. It is conducted four times a year: two in spring and two in fall. The class provides knowledge and skills using relevant scenarios modeled on an operator training simulator. The curriculum includes training in normal and emergency operations, operator communication and collaboration, and situational awareness.

The FAQ & Lessons Learned page of the SERC website is under Outreach. Questions submitted by stakeholders and answers are listed by category. Those in the Standards category are listed by standard family and then in numerical order. A green NEW flag appears next to the category and question for 30 days after its posting. Also on this page at top/right is a link to the Acronym Reference Index, which is updated when new acronyms appear during outreach events.

Perhaps the answer to your question is listed, or perhaps the answer to a question you didn’t think to ask is posted. If not, you are invited to submit a question to or anonymously through an O&P or CIP REF Steering Committee member.
